This DVD burner is extremely flexible; it can play or burn just about any type of media and can even run with Macintosh. It also comes with a creative software package that includes Easy Media Creator 7 and Sure Thing CD & DVD Labeler.
Feature Set:
This burner comes with various software programs that will let you do neat things with your media, including Easy CD & DVD Creator 6.2, Easy Media Creator 7, DVDMax Player, Toast Lite 6.0, LaCie LightScribe Labeler and Sure Thing CD & DVD Labeler.
This product also interfaces with a computer through a USB or firewire ports, so you can connect it to either a PC or a Macintosh. It burns DVDs to dual layer disks and reads just about any disk on the marketplace. In fact, the only disks that it is not able to read are the DVD-RAM, CD+G and CD-I disks.
Burner Speed:
The speeds of this DVD burner are right on par with their competitors. This product can read and write to DVDs at 16x, write and rewrite to DVD+R and DVD+R DL at 8x, which is about the fastest that you can get. The only type of media that this burner performs slowly with is the DVD-R DL format, in which the burner only performs at 4x, whereas other burners do 8x.
Help/Support:
It took LaCie about 2 days to respond to our questions through email, although this is not bad, compared to other companies that we tried to contact. However, their telephone support phone number is not toll-free; it is an Oregon number.
Summary:
LaCie D2 DVD+/-RW is a competitive product with good record/burn speeds and format flexibility.
