TopTenREVIEWS

The Buslink DBW-1688-U2 is a very fast external DVD burner and can read more formats than any other of the products that we reviewed. It also includes most basic functions; however, their customer support is not that responsive.

Feature Set:   Excellent

This burner is the only product in our side-by-side comparison that can read every format that we were looking for; unfortunately, it can only connect by USB port and not by firewire.

The burning software that comes with this drive is Nero Express that can help you burn non-encrypted CDs/DVDs and PowerDVD to play DVDs on the computer, it does not include LightScribe for creating labels for your disks. This product also has a 1-year warranty.

Burner Speed:   Excellent

We gave this burner a four in this area because it performs faster with every type of media except for the CD-RW disk, which rewrites at 24x instead of 32x. One speed that is impressive is its ability to write to a DVD-R DL disk at 8x, Sony is the only other manufacturer that has a product that can write at that speed. All other burners that we came across can only write at 6x or 4x.

Help/Support:   Excellent

We tried to contact this company through email but we received no response. They have support phone numbers available, but they are not toll-free, they are California numbers.

Summary:

Buslink is an excellent, fast external DVD burner that can work with many formats.
